Occasionally, we've mentioned CAPSES' membership with the California Association of Private Schools and Organizations (CAPSO) and the outstanding work they do on behalf of our members. The value of this relationship is exhibited through the scope of CAPSO's efforts in representing their affiliated organizations. Currently, there are 600,000 students enrolled in private schools representing nearly 10% of the K-12 enrollment in the state's total enrollment. CAPSO is the voice of over 80% of those students through the organizations they serve. Thus, when conditions arise that impact private schools, the CAPSO voice is a powerful one.
Recently, Spectrum Center Schools and CAPSES sponsored bill AB 1918 - O'Donnell, that assists Nonpublic schools in many credentialing issues and Temporary County Certificates, with the support of CAPSO. AB 1918 is only one of many that CAPSO advocates for on behalf of CAPSES and the rest of their members. Ron Reynolds, Executive Director of CAPSO, keeps a keen eye on any legislation or policy issues that impact private schools as demonstrated on their website.
Furthermore, CAPSES, through its CAPSO membership, is a member of the Council for Amerian Private Education (CAPE), a compilation of national organizations and state affiliates who serve private elementary and secondary schools.
CAPSES takes an active role in the CAPSO organization through its representation on the CAPSO Board of Directors by Richard Schnetzer. Schnetzer serves as CAPSES's Governmental Affairs Consultant. This relationship allows CAPSES to have immediate access to an effective organization such as CAPSO. So there you have it. Through CAPSO, CAPSES' membership benefits extend further than what meets the eye.
